Liquin and the maritime community support Mercy Ships

Mercy Ships started in 1978 with a dream: hospital ships staffed by volunteers delivering life-changing medical care to the world’s poorest countries. Since then, Mercy Ships has provided over 2 million people with medical procedures and development projects.

Vital medical help
This work is vital. Globally, some 5 billion people lack access to safe surgery. In addition, children and adults suffer and die every day from treatable causes, and 1 in 11 children die before the age of 5. Since 80% of the world’s population lives less than 150 km from a port city, Mercy Ships are a hygienic, efficient and relatively inexpensive way of reaching people in the greatest need.

Dutch hospital ships
Mercy Ships Nederland operates two state-of-the-art hospital ships, the Africa Mercy and the Global Mercy, the biggest private seafaring hospital in the world. Both ships are specially fitted and equipped to treat the poorest countries in Africa.

Gala charity dinner
On Thursday 12 March, over 190 guests from the Dutch maritime community came together on the iconic ss Rotterdam for the very first gala charity dinner in aid of Mercy Ships Nederland. The event was organised by the Dutch Maritime Mercy Ships Committee. As a company based in the Port of Rotterdam, it’s important for us to support the communities around us and Mercy Ships Netherland is a natural fit. That’s why Sebastian Margry, Peter van ‘t Hoff, Thom Brauwers, Nick Stam and several of our clients were present at the dinner

Fantastic result
It was a spectacular evening with inspiring speeches, delicious food and an amazing auction which raised over €26,000 for Mercy Ships Nederland’s valuable work. This amount continues to grow since there’s still a chance to donate. The proceeds will help fund a crew cabin for the Africa Mercy II.

Thanks to everyone present for their commitment and generosity, and especially to the Dutch Maritime Mercy Ships Committee for their enthusiasm, energy and dedication both before and during the event. We look forward to next year’s dinner!
