AmSpec’s partnership with Liquin

AmSpec is an independent testing and inspection company that provides analytical services to Liquin and its clients. Over the years, the two companies have forged a strong bond, working together to optimise testing processes and improve service performance at Liquin’s terminals. Now, both companies are about to take a major step forward that will improve client service even further.

Developing a partnership
“We began working with Liquin’s customers at Botlek Terminal in 2020, when the company was still part of Vopak,” says Freek Spann, Head of Survey Department, AmSpec. “We were doing more and more testing at Liquin terminals so I was invited to Botlek to talk about our work and we decided to meet more often.” The two companies started having quarterly operational meetings with a view to developing a stronger partnership. “We wanted to improve our cooperation so we could give our joint clients the best possible service,” says Ron Hoogeveen, Shift Leader, Liquin Botlek Terminal. “These quarterly meetings make it easier to communicate with each other and resolve any problems.”

A range of analytical services
AmSpec provides Liquin’s clients with a range of analytical services to ensure the liquid chemical products stored at Liquin’s terminals meet specifications in terms of density, purity, colour and other parameters. “Products are tested both when they’re loaded onto vessels and discharged to ensure they aren’t contaminated,” adds Ron. Along with other services, AmSpec conducts wastewater analysis for Liquin, ensuring that it’s been properly treated before it’s discharged.

Customer-first approach
In all these operations, safety is paramount. “Safety is deeply ingrained in our DNA with all surveyors holding VCA diplomas and adhering to strict PPE protocols,” says Freek. In addition to constant awareness about safety, Liquin and AmSpec are always looking to improve their communication and find ways to reduce waiting time for clients.

“We have the same clients and the same customer-first mindset,” says Ron.

AmSpec on site 24/7
This focus on client service is why Liquin invited AmSpec to open a satellite office at Botlek Terminal almost a year ago. “Our nearest office in Rozenburg is just 20 minutes away by car, though we prefer to be closer to our clients when possible,” says Freek. “Now we have surveyors at the terminal staying on top of the work and communicating directly with Liquin staff. If there’s a problem or something isn’t up to specification, we can respond quicker. Time is money for our clients.” The AmSpec office at Botlek also serves Liquin’s two other terminals. “There are several other testing and inspection companies working in Rotterdam Harbour but AmSpec stays at our terminal 24/7,” says Ron. “That’s a big win for us, our clients and the environment. AmSpec provides 24/7 support at the terminal, ensuring continuous service and rapid response.’’

New laboratory at Botlek
While AmSpec has surveyors directly on site, it still takes time to take samples to AmSpec RTC laboratory for testing. To reduce waiting times and carbon emissions, AmSpec will shortly open a laboratory at Botlek Terminal. ‘’We’re committed to continuous training and development to ensure the highest service standards,” says Freek.

“Testing involves a lot of driving, so the new laboratory will save time and help us minimise our environmental impact.”

Continuous improvement
The new laboratory is concrete proof of Liquin and AmSpec’s commitment to the partnership and their joint clients. “The team at Liquin is available and willing to provide support when needed’’, says Freek .”If we keep working in this positive way, the partnership can only get better,” Ron agrees: “The partnership is characterised by trust, professionalism and client-focus. We learn a lot from each other.”
